Today’s Program.

Tracy introduced fellow Rotarian and EC Police Chief Paul Keith to bring valuable about our Police Department.  Paul showed some great historic pictures of the PD.  Since the city is celebrating its centennial, he showed some of the photos that are being used.  It was interesting to see what happened in the 50’s in the area.  Paul gave us a quick summary of the crime trends in 2015-16 and spoke about things that increased and decreased.  He also pointed out the number of data that can be had by going on-line to the police blotter and other key sites.  In short the goals for 2017 are to increase traffic safety and safety in business districts.  One area he pointed out was the increase number of Mental Health issues that involve crime.  Paul also pointed out that crime trend have increased with violence in robberies increasing.  Crimes in El Cerrito have increase 82% and assaults by 55%.  Crimes in residual areas have actually decreased.   Chief Keith gave us some understanding of the various crime stats and what is being done to address them.  We must be aware of the programs that are provided for the public in our city as it can give us valuable information and insight into our roles to address crime issues.
