El Cerrito Rotary

The Wheel

June 22, 2017

Editor:  Gary Buffon

Let me begin by thanking Jan for taking the notes so I could pass this info along to our membership.

President Kanti welcomed everyone to the friendly El Cerrito Rotary Club and the pledge was led by Jane and Kanti provided the thought which was about words about the 40,000 people who attended the International convention.  Mark Scott also voiced some of his thoughts.

Guests and visiting Rotarians:  John had guests Georgina Edwards, and Alex and Kathleen Ray who were present to hear our guest speaker Kathleen Ray.

  • No Rotary meeting on July 6th
  • Club Board meeting is Jun 27th at 12:30 at the Berkeley Country club formerly the Mira Vista. All new and old board members are expected to be there.
  • Jane is still collecting for those who did not pay for their demotion dinner
  • Sonja announced she secured another winery for the event
  • Frank was presented a Service plaque for his tireless work in making sure we have everything we need for our meetings. The award is often called the Rotarian of the Year for our club because the club would not operate effectively without the work done by Frank.

Happy Dollars:

Jan is happy about getting a bronze sponsor for Sip and Savor.  Michael is happy about the Warriors win and how exciting it was.  Thomishia is going to Aruba next week.  Mark Scott is happy the Warriors were the favorite at the Rotary Convention, Sports Team wise.  Nancy is happy about attending the Warriors parade and that she got her German Shepard back.  Sil is happy he visited the Palm Desert Rotary Club.  Marla is not happy her new house in Benicia has a malfunctioning air conditioner.

Sgt at Arms Sil:  Not on duty today.

Other interesting things today:  Nobuko revealed that she took singing lessons for seven years and although she was asked to do a bit of entertaining she decided she wanted to do that at another meeting.  Stay tuned because we know this will be good.  Thank you Nobuko!

 Today’s Program.

John introduced our guest speaker Kathleen Ray who was on hand to give us some history and provide an update on the Contra Costa Civic Theater.  Kathleen explained how her parents started the theater how it has come a long way.  This has been brought about by the commitment of Kathleen parents who have worked tirelessly to make CCCT one of the best local theaters in our area.  Kathleen expressed how GOOD CCCT is for kids because of the use of technology and the exposure the young folks get working with a wide array of people.  The summation by Kathleen is the Theater has been carried on by the Flynn family member from generation to generation and making CCCT truly THE Community Theater.

Raffle Winner:  Thomishia won the bottle of gin.  Michael had his ticket pulled to choose a marble and pulled a black marble which cost him $5.  Next week the jackpot will be $80.

Thought for the week:  Has anyone considered just how effective the state of California would be if we swapped out all the politicians with veteran Rotarians?   Chances are we would be getting more accomplished, less debt and better results across the board!
