Guests and visiting Rotarians:  None today

Announcements:

  • President Terry thanked Marla for decorating the tables for Halloween
  • Terry provided a handout for everyone that detailed a way to donate to fire victims in the North Bay.
  • Terry reminded everyone of the “take home food for $10.” This program is simple you can pay $10 and have a dinner for tonight from the lunch buffet.  It is a good program.  Your author took advantage of the program last week and it was great because we didn’t have to prepare a dinner for ourselves.

  • Our Rotary Club holiday party is on December 1st at Trader Vics. Be ready to sign up soon.
  • Gary announced that Cassarah Chu and sister will be doing another dental mission to Burma and asked for support with the tooth brushes. This will be formally put forth at the Rotary Board meeting in November.
  • Terry acknowledged Gary for the Rotarian of the month award. Gary has been the mainstay as Interact Advisor and Bulletin Editor

Happy Dollars:

Don is happy for his heart checkup as there were no anomalies.  Kathleen is happy that her son has graduated and is now job hunting.  Marty is happy for his upcoming trip to New York and for Kathleen being here today.  Terry is happy for the songs he enjoyed in preparing for today’s meeting.

Sgt at Arms Sal:   Was not officially on today but did a quick summary at the end of our meeting just for the pure entertainment value.

Today’s Program.

Sil introduced Kathleen Hunt, a former El Cerrito Rotarian, to speak to us about Halloween and estate planning implications of vampires and zombies as it relates to passing our assets on to those who remain after our death.  This was a most interesting and entertaining presentation with sound legal principals along with a great dose of fun.  We heard about how the law treats or doesn’t treat the undead, in the case of Zombies and reborn or reanimated as in the case of Vampires.  Kathleen suggested if you are a werewolf it would necessary to set up a durable power of attorney for the days when there is a full moon so someone can take care of your business during this critical time of the month.

For those who don’t know, Kathleen conducted a college level course on Halloween and vampires and being an attorney this gives her a great opportunity to have fun with this subject.  That is why she is often requested to speak to us this time of year.

We were all entertained and very interested in what Kathleen had to say.  Thanks to her for conducting her annual presentation to us.
