Rotary International Foundation:  Jack brought in the annual report from the foundation and summarized a lot of interesting aspects of this great fund.  The fund has exceed one billion in assets in 2016-17.  This is a great financial resource that we have as Rotarians.  It is truly amazing how much the foundation grants provide for the people of our world.

 Today’s Program:

Sarah introduced Judi Miller who is store manager of Good Stuff Thrift Shop in El Cerrito Judi Gave us an overview of the organization that the Contra Costa ARC and operation that serves children and adults with developmental disabilities.  Judi has a grown offspring who was assisted by the Contra Costa ARC.  The store also had a paid employee who is provided and paid by the organization.  Judi noted that several of the volunteers who work at the store have children that are aided by Contra Costa ARC.  This thrift store has ben in operation for twenty two years and Judi and several of the other people have been there from the beginning.  The model for this store is similar to other thrift store opearations.  Judi told us about the high point of the shop’s year being the snnual jewelry event in October where a lot of good jewelry is put up for sale.  We learned about where the store gets its items and the way items are processed and/or recycled.  The Good Stuff Thrift Shop is located at 10313 San Pablo Ave and is directly across the street from the old Guitar Center building.  .  It turns out that Norma uses this facility to donate her items of clothing and other things.  The store is open Monday through Saturday 10a to 4p.    Go check out the store!!

Judi answered a number of questions. Thanks to Sarah for having Judi give us the information about Good Stuff Thrift Shop.  This was a great opportunity to learn about one of El Cerrito’s assets.
