President Terry:  Opened today’s meeting by greeting everyone.  The flag salute was led by Marty and Terry provided the thought for today.

Guests and visiting Rotarians:

Visiting today included Rotarian Wives  Sheila Addiego and Mary Farquharson and  our guest speaker  Kasuhsa’s husband Khambir.

  • TGIFF day is tomorrow from 5:30p to 7:30p at BCC. Our club is sponsoring the event so be sure you get plenty of people to attend.  Bring your significant other and invite guests that are interested in learning more about Rotary.  The El Cerrito Chamber is also a sponsor of the event.  See you all there!!  Do your best to come to the event tomorrow at 5:30p.
  • The April speaker team is in action to get the lineup set for the month.
  • The GGFs date for our running the concession stand was not viable. Stay tuned for possible opportunities in the future
  • Lee read a thank you letter from the speaker from “yes” and suggested we consider doing a community service project with them
  • May 12 is the RotoCare Bowl-a-Thon. The team has been filled but you can sponsor a bowler.  We have four bowlers and each is looking to get sponsors.   Several Rotarians have stepped up so be sure you check with them to see if they need your sponsorship
  • Rafael gave us an update on his Mother’s Day program at his store. Tracy asked that we “pass the hat” for his event and $121 and ten pesos were collected for his gifts to the Mothers.  We were given details of all the things that Rafael is doing and it is very heart warming.  He reminded us that he can use some help on May 13th to take care of all the activities he has organized..

Happy Dollars:

Rafael is $50 happy about his new accounts and all the work he doing for his community program for Mother’s day.  Kashua is happy Tracy invited her to speak to day and for all the warm wishes she was given by the Rotary members who have known her since she was in El Cerrito High School.  Marty is happy about his trip to Florida and for seeing a museum dedicated to Circuses.  Michael is happy to have heard from his wife and and daughter who are in Venice.  Sarah is happy for the Japanese exchange students that visited her son and had dinner at there home.  Jack had $20 for seeing Kasuha and remember when she was her in the early days of her first trip to be a Rotary exchange student.

Sgt at Arms Sal:  Not on duty today.

Other Interesting Things:

President Terry showed a video about Rotary Exchange

Today’s Program:

Sheila Addiego introduce Kashusaha and her husband (Alexander) Shasha Khambier who were visiting today so we could hear about what they are doing.   Kashua gave us the story of her high school attendance and then her ongoing adventure in completing a degree at an American university in Bulgaria where she met and married Shasha.  We heard about some of her adventures regarding her travel.  She is now a citizen of the US and has an email marketing firm in SF.  She then gave us a summary of how she serves her clients in email marketing and sales.  We heard about how social media such as Facebook and Linked can be used as a method to reach people who are interested in topical areas.  Kashua explained using and education process and using your website as a “store front” for business.  The overall goal is to create interest in either your product or service with your site.  We were provided a lot of great information about how one goes about setting up your business for email marketing,

Since Shasha is in the video production business we heard about ways to market what he does.  Again, the emphasis is on education and not promoting.  This was an excellent opportunity for those of us who are retired to learn a bit about what things one can control and what we can’t.  This was an excellent presentation and generated a great deal of excitement because of our relationship with Kashua.  Thanks Tracy for inviting her to come so we could see her and learn more about what she is doing.
