President Marty opened the meeting by greeting everyone and john led the flag salute and Marty offered the thought for today.

Guests & Visiting Rotarians:    Pate Thompson of Berkeley Rotary was visiting today and Marty’s friend Phil Lane was on hand.  Phil is checking us out to see if he wants to join Rotary.  Be sure you introduced youself to Phil and tell them the benefits of being a Rotarian

Announcements:

  • Marty reminded us today is world polio day.  He gave us some update info, the best one being that all of Africa is polio free
  • Pate Thompson had a thank you for our ongoing support of Roto Care.  He also advised us of that November 2nd at the Richmond Art Center there will be a special event from 5:30 to 7:30p celebrating the Roto Care
  • Tracy announced that she had sold all of the forty eight tickets she had and told us she will be getting more tickets for those that missed out
  • Jack sent a card around for everyone to sign for Mark Scott who will be undergoing surgery on the lower part of his left leg because of his diabetes. 
  • Lee announced that our Rotary Tax returns are ready to be filed.  Things are moving along as there is also movement on our investments in terms of them being invested in high dollar returns.  Thanks to Steve for all of his work in making this happen.

Sgt at Arms:  Steve was on today and he recognized Rafael for his anniversary of 29 years on Sept 30.  He also recognized him for his birthday coming up on Oct 28.   There were additional recognitions for people who did not have a Rotary pin or other clothing identifying them as Rotarians.  The club made some money today. 

Happy Dollars: Jack had $5 for sip and savor with a big thank you to Sonya and Jane for the great work they did with the annual fund raiser.  George and Norma are happy they will be going to Ireland with their daughter on vacation.  Gary is happy about the Interact club providing helpers for Sip and Savor and they were a great help.  Sonya is happy about getting everything squared away to get a new roof. 

Today’s Program:  Lee introduced Mark DeLeon of the Midtown Activity Center at 10940 San Pablo Ave.  Mark gave us the rundown on the facility and the great programs they offer.  There are also programs at the at Hana Gardens Senior Center.  One can attend one of the many resource fairs and learn about the various adult programs.  Mark explained the transportation programs that allow seniors to get to appointments.  He also pointed out the “Easy Ride” program and how seniors can schedule rides in advance to get to critical appointments for medical and other appointments.  Mark handed out the october flier which hav info on the weekly menu and other key things.    Gary acknowledged Mark for the great senior trips he and Norma have gone on in the bay area.  Check and see what you might do to take advantage of the wonderful things the center provides.  Thank you to Lee for inviting Mark to speak to us today.  You can get a flier for the monthly programs.  Go online to https://www.el-cerrito.org/597/Adult  and check it out.  Show or tell your friends about this site.  Their programs are wonderful and Mark and his staff are have a “be of service” attitude. 

Todays Raffle:  Michael won the bottle of wine.  Jack won chance at the raffle and selected a catseye.  Next week the pot will be $95.

Thought for the Day:   Far too many people are unaware of what Rotary International stands for and does for our world.  As a Rotarians it is our duty to make more people aware of our great organization. Share what you know with others and be proud of being a Rotarian
