On December 16, 2014, the El Cerrito City Council voted to join Marin Clean Energy (MCE), a local public power agency created to help residential and commercial electricity customers gain access to more renewable energy options at competitive rates. One of the main reasons behind this decision was to provide El Cerrito’s energy consumers with more choices as to where their power is purchased, and from which resources.

According to California State law, all ‘community choice’ energy programs, like MCE, are required to operate as the default service provider within the cities and counties they serve. For this reason, beginning in May 2015, MCE will become the primary service provider for all electricity customers in El Cerrito, unless they choose to opt out and remain with PG&E’s energy supply. Customers can also choose to ‘opt UP’ to MCE’s ‘Deep Green’ 100% renewable energy option.

Please note: PG&E will continue to provide electric delivery services (including maintenance of the lines and wires) and administering billing services for all of the City’s electricity customers. MCE, however, will be responsible for sourcing the energy on behalf of those who do not opt out.

In partnership with the City of El Cerrito, MCE will be conducting informational meetings and presentations explaining these new electricity options, providing rate comparisons, and discussing the new energy programs available to the community.  For more information, please visit www.mceCleanEnergy.org/elcerrito or call 1-888-632-3674.
