Meetings
Friendship
If you are a Rotarian, you can travel to virtually any destination on Earth, and you’ll be welcomed as a friend at a Rotary Club meeting for breakfast, lunch or dinner on almost any day of the week! Why do we sustain this effort to stay connected? For some, it’s because we meet new friends at Rotary, and we keep them for life. But for all of us, meeting consistantly is how we remind ourselves, and each other, that we have a world beyond our sight, and in that world, we have work to do.
Learning
Many Rotary Clubs feature guest speakers at their meetings. An environment of learning about new ways of thinking and about what other folks are doing to address needs in the world and the local community is not only interesting and fun, but it also opens us to new avenues of action. The Rotary Club of El Cerrito prides itself on attracting relevant and stimulating speakers, including recently Alice Walker, Narsai David, Dr. Vinay Prasad, John Garamendi, Michael Shellenberger, and many, many more.
Planning Our Next Move
The most important thing Rotarians can do is to identify areas of need locally and throughout the world. We pride ourselves on being “The Friendly Club.” (psst…all the Rotary Clubs are friendly!) But it turns out, we are also a helpful club. The Rotary Club of El Cerrito has facilitated clean water projects in Nepal, eye clinics in Guatemala, disaster rebuilding in Mexico, brought healthcare to unprotected folks locally, and supported our local schools with generous gifts of musical instruments. What is our next move? You are invited to come and help as we make our plans.
